1 Peter 5

Peter closes out this epistle about suffering with a call to action. Elders are called to shepherd the flock. I think it is significant that the role of elders is given prominence particularly when the church is about to face suffering. When difficulties arise spiritual leadership is essential.

Another prominent call to action in this last chapter is a call to humility. Humility is to permeate the fellowship. Young men are to be humble toward the elders. Humility is to characterize all the relationships in the church. Everyone is to be humbly dependent on the Lord. As the church around the world faces increased opposition and suffering may God be pleased to provide His church with elders worth emulating and a spirit of humility.
