“Forewarned is forearmed”, so the old saying goes. In today’s reading Paul forewarns Timothy about last days difficulties. He does this so that Timothy will not be shocked and dismayed by what is coming. Instead, Timothy is to strive all the more to follow Paul’s teaching, conduct, and aim in life. How we need to be forwarded today. With sorrow I see the sexual infidelity of pastors trumpeted in headlines. How dismaying this would be if we didn’t have this reminder to stay focused on God’s word and to continue to strive for holiness in this last and dark days.
