1 Timothy, and the other pastoral epistles 2 Timothy and Titus, may be among the most misused books in the Bible. Often, they are looked at as epistles that are just for pastors or elders. On the contrary, the are for the whole church. They let us all know how the church is to operate. As Paul writes in 1 Timothy 3:14-15, “I am writing these things so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God.” So, if you are a shepherd in the church this book is your leadership manual. If you are not ia shepherd, this book contains the standards to which you should hold your shepherds accountable. In today’s reading Paul starts by calling leaders to preserve the doctrinal purity of the church.
